The Addiction Consortium on Research & Education Network (ACORN) provides two grant opportunities. The first supports collaboration among faculty. The second is for Ph.D. Candidates at MSU who have completed coursework and are focused on dissertation writing.

ACORN Mini-Grants for Faculty Teams

Sponsored by the College of Human Medicine and the College of Social Science, ACORN awards mini-grants for teams that include MSU employees as Principal Investigators or Co-Principal Investigators. 

Key Information:

  • Grant Amount: Up to $10,000
  • Number of Grants: 2-3
  • Grant Duration: 12 months
  • Eligibility: The team must include faculty from at least two colleges, with only one from the health sciences (CON, CHM, COM) or Henry Ford Health
  • Priority: Teams that include MSU faculty or staff already actively engaged in scholarship focused on addiction science; teams applying for the funds are encouraged to include a community partner in Michigan as a Co-Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator
  • Word Limit: Proposals should be up to 1,000 words

ACORN Ph.D. Fellowship Grants

The ACORN Ph.D. Fellowship Grants, sponsored by the College of Human Medicine and College of Social Science, are designed to support doctoral candidates focused on substance use, addiction, and health. ACORN’s mission is to enhance research, practice, and policy to improve the lives of those affected by substance use. This fellowship is an opportunity for Ph.D. candidates to contribute to ACORN's mission through innovative and community-oriented projects.

  • Grant Amount: Up to $5,000
  • Number of Fellowships: 1-2
  • Grant Duration: 12 months
  • Eligibility: Ph.D. candidates at MSU who have completed coursework and are focused on dissertation writing
  • Priority: Applicants with a focus on addiction science and those willing to work with a Michigan-based community partner and MSU faculty/staff
  • Word Limit: Proposals should be up to 1,000 words
